Ngolo Kante is one of the best midfielders in world football. He is a very tenacious, hardworking midfielder with good defensive acumen. He is a competent passer and his driving run can open up spaces for his teammates in attack. Ngolo Kante has been constantly compared to Claude Makelele for his defensive strength.
He started his youth career at JS Suresnes, aged 8. He will move to Boulogne where he made his Ligue 2 debut in May 2012.
He joined Ligue 2 side in 2013 helping the side to gain promotion to Ligue 1. He will play all matches for the side as they maintained their Ligue 1 status. He made 81 appearances for Caen scoring 6 goals.
Ngolo Kante joined Leicester in August 2015, following Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. In his one and only season at Leicester, he led them to the Premier League title with dominant displays in the midfield. He made 175 tackles and 157 interceptions, higher than every player in the Premier League. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Chelsea purchase Ngolo Kante from Leicester in August 2016 for €35 million. He will go on to win the Premier League in his debut season with Antonio Conte. He became the second player since Eric Cantona to win back-to-back Premier League with two different teams. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year, PFA Players’ Player of the Year, and the Premier League Player of the Season.
In the 2017/18 season, he was voted by Chelsea fans as the Player of the Year, and also won the FA Cup by defeating Manchester United. He was nominated for the Ballon d’Or in October 2018. He will be rewarded with a new deal in November 2018 making him the highest player in Chelsea. He was named in the FIFA FIFPro World XI in September 2018
Ngolo Kante led Chelsea to the Europa League title with a win against Arsenal in the final. Though half-fit, he dominated Arsenal midfield as Chelsea wiped Arsenal 4-1 in Baku under Maurizio Sarri.
Under Frank Lampard, Kante continue to excel in a more advanced role, a position he started playing under Maurizio Sarri. Though injuries and poor team form affected his performances during the turbulent early part of the 2020/21 season, he will pick his form at the key moment of the season.
Kante reserved his best performances for Europe as he led Chelsea all the way to the Champions League title with Man of the Match performances especially in the final against Manchester City. He was named UEFA Men’s Midfielder of the Year for his wonderful performances.
Ngolo Kante currently has 221 appearances for Chelsea as of September 2021. He is only behind Cesar Azpilicueta in terms of appearances for Chelsea.
Ngolo Kante is of Malian descent though he was born in France. He chose to represent France. He was part of the French team that lost the EURO 2016 final to Portugal though he did not start the final. France will go on to win the FIFA World Cup in Russia with Kante playing a big role in the win.
