A quick and athletic left-back with good crossing ability, Ben Chilwell started his career at Rushden & Diamonds before joining Leicester City youth at 12.
Chilwell had some difficulty earlier in his career before becoming an indispensable player at Leicester City. He was sent on a brief loan to Huddersfield Town from November 2015 to January 2016. However, he will win the Academy Player of the Year in 2015 and featured regularly for the Under-15s.
Claudio Ranieri gave him his first-team debut against Hull City in the Carabao Cup in October 2015. His Premier League debut will come against Everton in December 2016. This was a season after Leicester shocked English football by winning the Premier League.
Ben Chilwell will progress rapidly and became the automatic first-choice in his position featuring heavily from the 2018/19 season till he left to join Chelsea.
Amid strong interest from Manchester City, Chelsea secured the signing of Ben Chilwell in August 2020. He signed a five-year deal and Chelsea paid €50 million for his acquisition.
After an injury-delayed start, Chilwell will regain his fitness and dislodge Marcos Alonso as Chelsea’s main left-back under Frank Lampard. In his first four games, he will score one and assist three. He will be nominated for the Player of the Month in the EPL in November.
With the arrival of Thomas Tuchel midway through the 2020/21 season, there was uncertainty about how Ben Chilwell will cope. This is because Tuchel utilizes the wing-back as opposed to the full-back in his tactical plan.
Marcos Alonso is more adept at the wing-back role having played in that position during his time at Fiorentina and early seasons at Chelsea.
Ben Chilwell will still make 55 appearances. Only two players have made more appearances than him throughout last season. He started the FA Cup scoring a goal that was ruled out for offside as Chelsea lost to Leicester City. He will start the Champions League final win.
Chilwell represented England at the youth capacity before making his senior debut in a friendly against Switzerland in September 2018. He was also part of the Gareth Southgate squad to the EURO 2020 tournament.
