One of the most consistent presence in Chelsea‘s defense over the last few seasons, Antonio Rudiger is one of the best tacklers in the Premier League. He is tall, strong, and a quick defender.
As a kid, he played for youth teams such as B. Dortmund U17, U19, Zehlendorf Yth. He started his career in the 3. Liga with VfB Stuttgart II. He will make his Bundesliga debut with Stuttgart in January 2012. He made 80 appearances at VfB Stuttgart.
Roma signed Rudiger in August 2015 initially on a loan offer but the deal was made permanent at the end of the season. He signed a four-year deal. He made 72 appearances for Roma in his two seasons at the Italian side featuring in the Europa and Champions League.
Chelsea signed Antonio Rudiger in August 2017 in a five-year deal worth £29 million. Under Antonio Conte, he was used in either side of the center back in his preferred three-man central defense. He won the Premier League and FA Cup in his debut season being named man of the match in the FA Cup final.
Under Maurizio Sarri, Rudiger was a regular alongside David Luiz and made 44 appearances despite being injured at some point in the season. He won the Europa League trophy with Chelsea that season.
When Frank Lampard resume the position as a Chelsea coach, Antonio Rudiger was his preferred center-back option. However, in the 2020/21 season, Lampard made a change, preferring to start with Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma as his preferred starting option in the central defense.
The arrival of Thomas Tuchel midway through the season changed his fortunes as he regained his starting slot as the left-sided center back. He will go on to win the Champions League with Chelsea.
Antonio Rudiger played for Germany’s youth team before making his senior international debut in May 2014. He was part of the team that won the Confederation Cup in Russia. He has 47 caps for Germany, with two goals.
