Chelsea is right to sell Tino Livramento, here are the reasons.

Chelsea announced the surprise permanent transfer of Tino Livramento to Southampton in Augsut 2021. The Chelsea youth right back decided against a new deal after considering his chances in the star-studded Chelsea team rooster.

According to report by Fabricio Romano on Twitter, he signed a five-year deal with Southampton. Chelsea retained a buy-back clause in the deal. The deal figure is around €6 million.

Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel tried to convince the youngster and Academy Player of the Year to stay and fight for his place, but he refused.

Tino Livramento started his career in Chelsea academy, he was a big part of the Under-19 league winning side. His performances helped him with a place in the bench for Chelsea match against Manchester City, and Arsenal.

The 18-year old has gone to become a mainstay in the Southampton side. He has started all the seven Premier League fixtures amassing 626 minutes, creating six chances for Hasenhüttl’s side.

He showed Chelsea fans what they are missing in Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against the Saints. His runs created all sorts of problems for Ben Chilwell, with one resulting in a penalty after fouling him in the box.

A number of factors contributed to his departure from Chelsea, and the most important ones are:

#1 Chelsea strength in depth

Livramento is a right-back, who also occasionally play as a wing-back. This is a position that Chelsea have good strength in depth with Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, and occasionally Trevoh Chalobah filling in for the position.

Zappacosta is also another right back in the squad before he completed his move to Atalanta later in the same August.

The competition for places will not favour the young player as he will be restricted to few games, substitute appearances, and cup fixtures.

#2 Tino Livramento will develop further

Tino Livramento knew that Southampton will be the right place to develop his obvious potentials. The Saints has a reputation of norturing young talents and helping them become stars. Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Luke Shaw, Dusan Tadic and Gareth Bale are the long list of talents that have emerged from Southampton.

They have gone to become some of the biggest football stars, and moved to more prestigious clubs.

This prospect will be appealing to Tino Livramento. Southampton will provide the perfect environment for him to learn. The pressure is less, unlike in Chelsea where there is enormous pressure for the coaches to win trophies.

This means the coaches will have less time to stick with younger players. This is because they are largely inconsistent and needs patience and guidance for growth.

This has already started happening, as he is the undisputed right-back choice in the team.

Southampton is also one of the teams in England with good tacticians. Ralph Hasenhüttl is a brilliant coach with coherent tactical plan and way of playing football.

An adopter of gegenpressing, his coaching will help Tino develop aspect of his game like pressing, positioning and movement during matches.

Chelsea has ensure they don’t lose a bright talent like Tino Livramento, by putting a buy-back clause. They will be closely monitoring his progress as the year progress.

List of 4 Best free Chelsea transfers

Since the takeover of Chelsea by Roman Abramovich in 2013, the owner has sanctioned a whole of Chelsea transfers. Some of them were not successful, but some of those expensive Chelsea transfers turned out to be big on-field failures.

It is a prove of the statement that money does not buy love. Some of the marquee signings will later be moved on after a short stint at the club. For example, Morata, an expensive flop from Madrid will spend only one season and a half before being shipped to Atletico Madrid.

For all the problems of signing players that failed to justify their price tags, Chelsea has found some joy in free transfers. Some of these players have proven to become some of the best Chelsea transfers.

Best free Chelsea transfers

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva is the true definition of a world-class player. The center-back is one of the best in his position. Even at 36, there has been an almost unnoticeable sign of decline in his performance. Though at his age, Thomas Tuchel has used him sparingly to keep him fit for the big events.

Deemed surplus to requirement at PSG after the Champions League heartbreak loss to Bayern Munich, Thiago Silva moved to Chelsea for free. He will slot into Frank Lampard’s team, and still maintained his status in the team with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel midway through the 2020/21 season.

He had the last laugh as he lifted the Champions League with Chelsea in his debut season. He started the final and performed admirably limiting Pep Guardiola’s attacking machine. An injury in the final led to his eventual substitution but Christensen continued where he stopped.

He is arguably top of the list in the best Chelsea transfers.

Michael Ballack

Widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation, Ballack was an amazing player. He has wonderful shots, good technique, and passing range. Brazilian legend, Pele rated him as one of the 100 Greatest Living Player.

The three-times German Footballer of the Year left Bayern Munich for Chelsea in May 2006 on a free transfer.

Though often criticized for weak performances in crucial matches, Ballack will help Chelsea to win a Premier League, three FA Cups, and a Carabao Cup to become one of the best Chelsea transfers.

He was particularly unlucky in the 2007/18 season where Chelsea lost the Champions League and Premier League titles to Manchester United. He also lost the Euro 2008 final to Spain.

Didier Drogba

It was a surprise when Didier Drogba, a bonafide Chelsea legend decided to return to the club.

After a memorable winning performance in the Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich in May 2012, Drogba decided to move on.

He will spend six months at Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, before moving to the Turkish outfit, Galatasaray.

Jose Mourinho returned to Chelsea and decided to bring back Didier Drogba, a player that typified his winning mentality.

On his second coming, Drogba will help to lessen the goal burden on Diego Costa, and Loic Remy. Chelsea won the Premier League and Carabao Cup in his one and only season before he departed again for Montreal Impact in the MLS.

Ruud Gullit

A player capable of playing in a number of positions. He played in in the defense, the midfield, and attack. Dutch legend, Ruud Gullit helped the Netherlands to the Euro trophy in 1988.

After moving from PSV to AC Milan for then the world record transfer fee, he will take his game to the next level. He won the three Serie A and the Champions League.

Gullit moved to Chelsea in July 1995 on a free transfer after a brief stint with Sampdoria.

After an initial struggle under Glen Hoddle, he will adapt later and was named the runner-up to Cantona as the Footballer of the year.

Gullit showed his managerial credentials at Chelsea when Glen Hoddle left as the coach. Ruud Gullit will lead Chelsea as player-manager. They won the FA Cup victory in 1997.

The match was eventful as Chelsea took the early initiative from the start. Two Chelsea players had goals ruled out. First was Lukaku, as his goal from Rudiger’s pass was ruled out for offside.

Timo Werner had a goal ruled out after a VAR check by referee Atkinson. Cesar Azpilicueta was adjudged to have fouled Kyle Walker-Peters in the build-up to the goal.

Chelsea vs Southampton: Player Ratings

Edouard Mendy – 6/10

The first choice shot-stopper was largely untroubled. But had some nervy moments when he dallied on the ball too much. He was a bit casual on his passing, one of such moments resulted in Jorginho almost getting injured. It resulted in a red card for James Ward-Prowse. Mendy could do nothing about the penalty.

Thiago Silva – 7/10

The veteran defender was his usual confident self. His leadership skill was prominent and he distributed the ball very well. He contained Southampton striker, Armstrong well.

Anthony Rudiger – 8/10

The center-back was also impressive as he used his power and experience to help in the defense. Going forward, he did well providing an assist for Lukaku only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Trevoh Chalobah – 8.5/10

The young player continues to impress as he now has two goals in the Premier League in his debut season. He was solid defensively and was confident on the ball.

Cezar Azpilicueta – 8.5/10

One of Chelsea’s most reliable performers. He defended well and contributed very well to the attack. His cross for Timo Werner’s goal was the deciding moment of the match.

Ben Chilwell – 7.5/10

Ben Chilwell had a mixed start to the season playing second fiddle to Marcos Alonso since the start of the season. He will concede a penalty that allowed Southampton to pull level with 30 minutes to play. He made amends with a well-taken volley inside the box late in the game to put the game out of Southampton’s reach.

Kovacic – 7/10

The energetic midfielder bossed the midfield and created chances for his team with his movement and dribbling.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 7.5/10

Loftus has been in very good form for Chelsea. Injuries to Kante and Jorginho have increased his game time, and he has proven to be a big influence. He was elegant on the ball and provided the assist for Chalobah with a flick-on header to the back post.

Hudson-Odoi – 6.5/10

Lively on the ball, Odoi provided a threat from the wing for Chelsea with his direct running and dribbling. He also linked well with the midfield and other attackers.

Timo Werner – 7.5/10

Full of running, Timo Werner was fully involved in the game. In a match that seemed to go wrong for Werner, he was denied a goal and missed so many presentable chances. His presence got him a goal, and it was a decisive one.

Romelu Lukaku – 7/10

Though Lukaku did not score today, he was a threat to Southampton’s defense. He also provided chances for his teammates to score. He had a goal ruled out for offside and hit the bar from close range.

Subtitutes

Jorginho – 6.5/10

He came off the bench and helped stabilize the midfield. The poor foul by Ward-Prowse on him resulted in a red card. And it proved decisive as Chelsea dominated after the sending-off.

Mason Mount – 7/10

Following his injury, Chelsea sorely missed his influence and failed to win a game. He proved to be a big threat after coming off the bench. He almost capped a strong cameo appearance with a goal.

Ross Barkley – 7/10

Another big performance off the bench, his cross-field pass to Azpilicueta started the move that helped Chelsea score the decisive goal of the match.

Juventus vs Chelsea match: 2 Players to watch out for

Juventus will host Chelsea at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Wednesday 28 September 2021. The Juventus vs Chelsea match is the second match in the Group H of the Champions League. The group also has Russian and Swedish Champions Zenit St. Petersburg and Malmo respectively.

Juventus

Juventus’s transfer window was eventful. Former coach, Massimiliano Allegri returned to the dugout after Pirlo was relieved of his duty post. But it was the sale of their superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United on the final days of the windows that dominated the headlines.

They have started the new season in an indifferent form. After drawing against Udinese in the Serie A opener, Juventus will lose to Empoli and Napoli. They secured the first win of the season in the Champions League against Malmo.

It was in their fifth match in Serie A against Spezia that Juventus got their first league win. Their records in the league stand at two wins, two draws, and two losses.

Juventus currently languish in the 10th position in the Serie. Their defensive performances have been below par this season. They have scored 10 goals but have conceded an equal number too.

Juventus has confirmed Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala will not be able to recover from their injuries. They are ruled out of action till after the international break.

This will present a heavy problem for Juventus as Dybala remains their main attacking threat. He scored in the Champions League win, before adding another in the 3-2 win over Sampdoria.

Chelsea

Chelsea will go into the match with much confidence. They will be buoyed by their success in Europe last season that culminated in the Champions League win. Thomas Tuchel will hope to make amends for the disappointment of the loss to rival, Manchester City in the Premier League.

Chelsea started the season well winning four of their opening six games in the league, only drawing to Liverpool, and losing to Manchester City. They secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Zenit in the first match of the Champions League with Lukaku proving the hero.

Mason Mount will likely return after suffering a minor knock. But Reece James, Jorginho, and Pulisic will likely miss out due to injuries.

Juventus vs Chelsea

The last Juventus vs Chelsea match was in the Champions League in 2012. In the first match of the group stage, Oscar announced himself to Chelsea faithful with two well-taken goals in quick succession. It was his Champions League debut. Juventus will later secure a draw after scoring two goals in both halves.

Juventus will beat Chelsea 3-0 in the corresponding fixture at their home ground.

Chelsea Players to Watch

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek is a huge talent, but for one reason or the other has failed to live up to the lofty expectations. The 25-year old spent last season at Crystal Palace but has remained at Chelsea this season to fight for his place.

He has an impressive cameo appearance against Manchester City in the 0-1 loss at Stamford Bridge. He is the only Chelsea player to hold his own in a match that stifled Chelsea’s midfield. He excused confidence as he carried the ball with elegance and an excellent drive.

He will be hoping to make another big impression on the gaffer, Thomas Tuchel

Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku has slotted into the Chelsea team setup with ease. He has shown early signs of what he can offer to the team. He already has three goals in the Premier League. The crucial goal he scored in the first match of the Champions League secured Chelsea the vital 3 points.

Tuchel will be hoping he will use his power and movement to torment Juventus central defense that has been very poor this season. He will be hoping to add to his goal tally.

The Juventus vs Chelsea match will be broadcast live on Supersports

Charly Musonda makes a comeback for Chelsea

Chelsea exciting prospect, Charly Musonda has everything to celebrate. The attacking midfielder has been off the radar for some periods due to a niggling injury.

In his Instagram account, Charly Musonda posted about what transpired behind the scenes. The 24-year old Belgian admitted that he feared for his career after being told he has only a 20% chance of playing professional football again due to a posterior cruciate ligament injury.

He will spend an agonizing two years with the Chelsea rehabilitation center as he slowly built back his physical and mental fitness.

Charly Musonda will feature for Chelsea’s Under-23 after 760 days without football starting from August 2019. In the match against Liverpool Under-23 in the Premier League 2, Chelsea completed a comeback from two goals down.

Bryan Fiabema, George Nunn, Joe Haigh scored for Chelsea before Lewis Hall grabbed the winner for Andy Myers’ side, all in the space of 30 minutes.

Musonda joined Chelsea in 2012 from Anderlecht. He played for the youth team where he was impressive. He will find out that the path to Chelsea’s first-team is difficult prompting him to push for a loan move away from Chelsea.

Charly Musonda has had series of unsuccessful loan moves. He first moved to Real Betis in 2016 for a 6-month loan that was later extended to a year. He will move to Celtic in January 2018. The eighteen-month loan was canceled in May 2018 after just four months.

It was his last loan move to Vitesse in the Eredivisie that he got injured. The injury restricted him to just four games over the course of two seasons.

He will return to Chelsea where he was managed by the physio team at the Cobham training center.

Musonda is registered with Thomas Tuchel’s 23-man squad for the 2021/21 season. He will be hoping to put his injuries woes behind him.

Ranking the best Chelsea managers of all times

Pressure is what Chelsea managers are used to. Since the 2013 takeover of the club by Roman Abramovich, Chelsea has moved from strength to strength becoming one of the best sides in England and Europe in general.

This meteoric rise and change of fortunes did come at a cost. Most of the Chelsea managers have learned that success on and off the pitch is all that matters to the Israel-Russian oligarch. Failure to deliver or maintain sustained success over a long period will lead to the sack.

The early example was the case of Claudio Ranieri who was sacked in May 2004, a year after the arrival of Abramovich despite delivering a second-placed finish in the Premier League. This was Chelsea’s best-ever finish as at then.

Frank Lampard will also face the same situation. Arguably, one of the best players in Chelsea’s history, and the club record goalscorer. He will face the sack as a Chelsea manager after a turbulent season and a half.

Abramovich has overseen the hiring and sacking of 14 managers as the club owner.

Best Chelsea Managers

1. Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is a symbol of Chelsea’s renaissance and evolvement in English football. The former Porto Coach arrived in 2004 after leading Porto to an unlikely Champions League triumph. The self-acclaimed “Special One” will guide Chelsea to a Premier League title at the first time of asking in the 2004-2015 season conceding only 15 goals. He defended the title the following season.

He will crash out of the Champions League loss to Liverpool on two occasions. Mourinho will win the FA Cup, and Community Shield, and two Carabao Cups.

However, Mourinho will have a strong disagreement with the Chelsea board over the recruitment of Andriy Shevchenko. Amid this, and other issues, Mourinho left Chelsea in September 2007.

Mourinho returned back to Chelsea in June 2013. He will add another Carabao Cup in 2015 after beating Tottenham and sealed another Premier League at the end of the season.

Mourinho will part ways with Chelsea again in December 2015 after a poor run of form that saw Chelsea lose nine out of 16 games. Mourinho is arguably the best of the Chelsea managers given his successes.

2. Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti left AC Milan after an eight-year reign in the Rossoneri’s dugout. He joined Chelsea in June 2009 after Guus Hiddink, the interim manager left. He will win the Community Shield, and secured the Premier League on his debut season pipping Manchester United by a single point.

His attacking football endeared him to the Chelsea faithful as Chelsea scored a then Premier League record 103 goals. He also secured the FA Cup.

The signing of Fernando Torres and David Luiz could not help Chelsea retain the EPL as Ancelotti, one of the best Chelsea managers was sacked in May 2011.

3. Antonio Conte

After leading Juventus to four consecutive Scudetto title wins, Conte had a brief stint with the Azzuri leading Italy to the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016.

He joined Chelsea in April 2016. He altered Chelsea’s formation introducing the largely unused 3-4-3 formation to the Premier League. Chelsea will go on a 13-game winning streak that will eventually set a tone for the Premier League title win. Chelsea will record 30 wins in 38 matches, a new Premier League record.

He will add the FA Cup with a win over Manchester United in May 2018. Conte will leave at the end of the season after Chelsea finished in lowly 5th position in the league.

4. Ted Drake

Ted Drake is the first manager to secure a league win for Chelsea. He still remains the only coach before the Abramovich era to do so.

He arrived in 1952 and kickstarted a wholesome change to Chelsea’s team approach and methods. He removed the Chelsea Pensioners nickname and changed it to the Blues. He introduced the Lion Rampant Regardant crested logo.

He scouted for young players and transformed them rather than recruiting big names. Chelsea will win the league title in the 1954-55 season.

5. Thomas Tuchel

After the dismissal of Frank Lampard in January 2021, former PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel took over at Stamford Bridge. The German tactician turned Chelsea season around, and won the Champions League after defeating Manchester City in Porto.

Honorable Mentions

  • Roberto Di Matteo: An assistant to Villas-Boas, Chelsea coach then. He became a caretaker manager after his sacking. He led Chelsea to an unlikely Champions League in 2012, addding the FA Cup with a win over Liverpool. He lasted eight months before his sacking.
  • Maurizio Sarri: He spent just a full season at Chelsea winning the Europa League trophy in the 2018-19 with a win against Arsenal in Baku.

Liverpool is the worst affected with three of their stars Roberto Firmino, Allison Becker, and Fabinho also suspended. Eight players were affected due to this ban

With these players failing to turn up for Brazil in their matches against Argentina and Peru, Brazil’s FA decided to trigger a FIFA ruling that allows a country’s Football Association to block teams from selecting players that refuse to turn up for international duties.

Thiago Silva was one of the players who was affected due to the ban. He is now eligible to play in the Chelsea encounter with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Richarlison is the only Brazilian international who was exempted from this list due to the good relationship between Brazil FA and Everton. He has also previously been allowed by Everton to play for Brazil at the Olympics.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa: Possible line up, formation, and prediction

Chelsea team news

Chelsea will be without Pulisic who is injured again and is expected to stay on the sideline for the next 10 days. Ngolo Kante is also injured. Reece James will be unavailable due to his red card against Liverpool.

Thiago Silva is likely to be also unavailable due to FIFA’s 5-day international ban. This is because he did not team up with his Brazilian national team during the international break forcing Brazil FA to trigger this ruling.

Saul is likely to start for Chelsea. The 26-year old Spanish midfielder arrived at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in a loan deal during the summer transfer. He will provide more depth to a Chelsea midfield that is lightweight after the international break exhaustion.

Aston Villa news

Aston Villa will be without their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and playmaker, Emiliano Buendia. Both Argentine players are going to be quarantined after international duty with their country.

Bertrand Traore has returned to training after his injury but will likely miss the game. Leon Bailey, Ezri Konsa, Jacob Ramsey, and John McGinn are available for this match.

Thomas Tuchel has lost only three Premier League games and two of them have been at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea however boasts the best defence conceding only 14 goals since his arrival.

Player to Watch out for

Romelu Lukaku will be aiming to continue his spectacular start to the season for both club and country. He has already opened his Chelsea account on his second debut for the club against Arsenal. He is a man with a point to prove after securing a big-money return to his old club, Chelsea.

During the international break, he scored three goals in four matches and he is the highest goal scorer for Belgium National team with 67 goals.

Lukaku has also found the net in his last five games against Aston Villa

Danny Ings has also been impressive for Aston Villa since his shrewd £30 million transfer from Southampton. He has six goals in his last eight games in the Premier League.

Verdict: Chelsea is motivated this season. They are yet to lose a single game. After winning the Champions League last season, they have added the UEFA Super Cup with the victory over Villareal. They look set to challenge for the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa presents a pretty challenging opponent for Chelsea but the Blues will likely come out as winners.

Chelsea Squad Numbers for the New Season Confirmed!

With Chelsea having confirmed all outgoings and signings ahead of the new season, they have gone ahead to assign new jersey numbers to players. We will take a look at Chelsea’s squad numbers for the already started season.

Romelu Lukaku will wear the vacated number 9 jersey evacuated by Tammy Abraham. His signing comes at the same time with the switch of Tammy Abraham to the Italian team, Roma now being managed by former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho.

He will look to emulate the footstep of team legends such as Didier Drogba, Gianluca Vialli, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who delivered with the jersey.

The jersey is regarded as a curse since many players have struggled with the weight of the number. Fernando Torres, Mateja Kezman, Hernan Crespo, Khalid Boulahrouz, Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain, Radamel Falcao are part of a long list of strikers who never delivered wearing the number 9 jersey in Chelsea.

Kovacic has switched from his old number 17 to wear number 8, the previous number held by Chelsea goalscoring midfielder Frank Lampard.

Saul Niguez, a new arrival from Atletico Madrid will take over the number 17 jersey. He previously wore the number 17 at his former club in his first two seasons. He later switched to number 8. Pedro is the last Spaniard to don this jersey for Chelsea.
