Danny Drinkwater has moved on a one-year loan on the transfer day deadline to the English Championship side, Reading. This is his fourth loan since joining Chelsea from Leicester City in 2017. He will join the Royals with another Chelsea left-back, Baba Rahman.
Chelsea signed Drinkwater in the summer of 2017 for £35 million on a five-year deal. He was a part of the Leicester City team that won the Premier League in 2016. He formed a dynamic midfield partnership with Ngolo Kante.
He will struggle to make any form of serious impact for Chelsea with injuries and poor form limiting him to just 23 appearances. He scored only one goal in all competitions for Chelsea.
He has spent seasons on loan at Aston Villa, Burnley, Kasimpasa. Drinkwater has spent last year on loan to a Turkish outfit, Kasimpasa.
Drinkwater has also faced disciplinary issues in his career. When he was on loan at Burnley, he has an altercation in a Manchester nightclub and got injured forcing Burnley not to extend his stay.
He also headbutted a teammate, Jota while he is on loan at Aston Villa. In 2019, he was charged with drink driving after crashing his Range Rover. He was slammed with a 20-month driving ban.
